A Great Humorous Book!

Looking for a book that will really make you laugh? I loved I am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I want to be your Class President, written by Josh Lieb, the executive producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

New and Improved, Story Smash now contains Puppets!

That's right, this Monday's Story Smash program now contains puppets! You heard it here folks, 100% fluffy puppet goodness. So that gorilla having a picnic with Darth Vader can now be shown in puppet 3D, thanks to this new fluffy technology. Don't miss out, try it for yourself.

Why the Library Is Awesome

It's difficult to quantify just how awesome the awesomeness is, but give it a try. (We don't believe in modesty)

Leave a comment to tell us why you think the Library is awesome. They won't show up right away (we watch for unawesomeness before we put posts through) but we'll check regularly to make sure your awesome responses get posted. Too much awesomeness? I think not!

Summer Reading coming soon!

Believe it or not, summer is actually on its way. We start our summer reading on June 28 but we'll have an "official" launch party on Monday, July 5 from 1-3 pm.

This summer we'll let you play your way.

Play online with TeenRC.ca where you can exchange ideas about books with other teens, post your opinions and share your own writing in the forums. Because it is a Canada wide internet based program, you can still play while you're away on holidays.

Everyone Loves a Parade Volunteer!

Help! The Library is going to be walking in the Rainmaker Rodeo parade this year and we could use a few more hands to carry the candy. If you would be willing to dress up, walk a couple of kilometers and hand out some candy, give us a call.

Contact Kathleen at 780-418-6623 for more information.

Panic at the Prom! (not Panic at the Disco, but close)

The prom was fun until someone pulled the fire alarm and drenched the party. Suspiciously only 8 people remained dry. Who wanted to ruin prom? Was it you? Your best friend?

We've had mysteries in the deserts of Egypt and in the dining room of a transatlantic steamship and now we're at the high school prom. Put your detective skills to the test in this interactive mystery as we try to figure out who dun it.

If this sounds like fun, give us a call at 780-459-1682 to save your spot.

Books and Bites Bookclub: Poetry and Verse Novels!

In celebration of National Poetry Month, we are discussing poetry and verse novels this Thursday.  I love how you can read these books quickly if the mood strikes you or you can slow down and soak in the rhythm of the words. Many writers today are experimenting with poetry and verse; for example, Ellen Hopkins has published 6 bestselling novels in verse and has the final installment of her Crank trilogy, entitled Fallout, coming out in September, 2010.

Project Runway: Eco Challenge

Have you seen some of the amazing fashions made from recycled materials? I decided to try this a few months ago and was surprised to find out how much stuff is out there. A couple of weeks ago I was in Portland, Oregon and in the airport there was a display of Trash Fashion! Check out some of these pictures then come to the Library next Saturday to try it for yourself. We might not be quite that fancy...

Steampunk vs. Leprechauns

It's that time of year when all things green come to mind. Grass, trees, clover and, of course, leprechauns. If you're unfamiliar with the term steampunk, here's the short version. Steampunk is the mix of science fiction/fantasy set in a time period where steam power is still used. Titles like The Time Machine by H.G.
