PUBLIC SERVICES MANAGER

The St. Albert Public Library is a vital part of the community and is consistently rated as one of the key strengths of the City.  About 300,000 people pass through our doors each year and another quarter million visit our website annually.  Library users borrowed over 850,000 books, magazines, and audio-visual materials last year alone.  In the next 20 years, the population of St. Albert is expected to surpass 100,000 residents and the St. Albert Public Library will need to adapt and grow to meet that increased population.  The Library currently operates from a 25,000 square-foot facility but the Library Board is working toward the goal of a new library of 60,000 square-feet.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for an experienced professional to plan, organize, manage and evaluate the Library’s public services for all age groups, following the appointment of the post-holder to Library Director.

You will direct all aspects of the work of the Public Services Team, particularly through direct supervision of Public Service Coordinators in four areas: Adult, Children’s, Special and Young Adult services.  You will be responsible for delivering quality public services to Library patrons through collections, information services, programs, special services and technology. You will also direct the Career Resource Centre as Project Manager, including negotiating and managing the contract with the Province.

Management of the department includes hiring, training and evaluating staff, and planning and budgeting including preparing grant proposals.

The position requires formal and informal leadership daily throughout the Library and in the community, and leadership skills in dealing with the Library Board and elected officials.  You will be part of the Library’s management team, which involves developing and implementing goals, policies and procedures for the Library as a whole, assisting the Director in the planning and administration of Library services, including attending Board and other meetings.  You will serve on Library committees and community groups or organizations on behalf of the Library and advocate for and promote the library to the community.

You will require a university degree in Library/Information Studies, five years of library experience, preferably in a public library setting, including supervisory experience, an excellent general knowledge base and proficiency with current productivity software, as well as knowledge of library automation systems. A driver’s license is required.

Annual salary is $71,608 - $87,122 plus a comprehensive benefit plan.
