Online Computer Training

The following interactive online computer tutorials allow you to work through all levels of computer information at your own pace.  Access to these tutorials requires a valid St. Albert Public Library barcode, your PIN number (last four digits of your phone number) and Internet Explorer 6 or higher.  Click on the link to bring the tutorial up on your computer screen.  The following tutorials are available:

Basic Computer Tutorials:

Windows XP:   Includes an introduction to Windows XP, accessory applications, Windows Explorer, shortcuts, printing and Internet basics. 

PC Skills:  Includes a introduction to personal computer basics, the system unit, peripherals and the Internet.

Concepts of Information Technology:  Covers hardware, software and storing data.

File Management and Your Computer:  Covers text editing, working with icons and files.

Word Processing:  Covers text formatting, paragraph and document formatting, pictures and images.

Spreadsheets:  Covers inserting and editing data, formulas and functions, charts and graphs.

Databases:  Covers first steps with databases, formatting tables and sorting data.

Presentations:  Covers developing a presentation, charts and graphs, and slide show effects.

Information and Communications:  Covers the Internet, accessing and bookmarking web pages, e-mail.

Microsoft Office Tutorials

These free online tutorials are available through the Microsoft site.  Tutorials are available in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Publisher.  Sessions are 30 - 50 minutes in length.

 

Computer Skills Literacy Series

The Online Lifelong Learning Initiative includes a ten part computer skills literacy series of learning modules.  Topics include computer basics, windows functions, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express e-mail, Internet safety, data storage, file management, computer management skills and program management.
